Hot Rods and Hangovers Race 2011

I would like to see if there is any interest in having a race on Saturday January 1st, 2011. The preliminary discussion centers around having an enduro style race, held at two different tracks. With the majority not having to work the following day, I would like to see who would like to participate. The cars to be used are to follow the following rules:

"Saturday night at Skip's" Street Rod Class: Any non-magnet plastic chassis may be used. Scratch built chassis is ok. You may add lead and allow for chassis rock. You may use any lead wires, and braid, or any 1/32nd scale production guide flag. Must be pre-1980 American 1/32nd scale production car. May be plastic or resin. May be roadster or hardtop, and/or open wheel. Paint them to your own liking. No numbers please. Any interior may be used, but the interior must have some substance. Single sheet of lexan not ok. Car must have a driver, and if the production car had a windshield and back glass, so should yours. Use your imaginations. Vehicle is to be powered by NC-1, NC-8, or BWA NC-1 equivalent. You may use any 1/32 production gear choice, and any 1/32 production axle choice. Any plastic or metal 1/32 production wheels may be used, beside F-1 wheels or larger. Front and rear axle width must not exceed 2.375" or 2 3/8ths. Front and rear wheels and tires may be trued to your liking, and you may use any 1/32nd scale production tire. Wheel inserts are preferred. The purpose of this class is not to build a lightweight no holds barred race car. These cars were old, heavy, and handled awkwardly. Build a car you want to be proud to look at, and be the envy of your fellow racers. If it wins races so be it. If it looks great, but runs like crap so be it. I think we can all see where this is going. Spirit and intent is definitely in effect. You can be as creative as you want, or you can buy an off the shelf street car and tune it. The choice is yours, but the object is not to spend lots of money, but to just put together a bad ass, nice looking car. Car must weigh at least 85 grams.

There will be a car show, and awards for the top 3 best looking paint and modeling.

Have locations been determined yet?
Ken
I know what Skip's was, but it closed when I was like 4. Don't remember going, but I do remember the building after it closed.

Have we determined that there will be a race? Only looks like 5 guys so far.

I was just being a smart ass Ken but I'm glad you have a recolection. Sad truth is I'm old enough to have driven my 56 Belair and 58 Impala through looking for action. :D

Would be nice to have 8 or more participants. I think 8 is enough to marshal any of the club tracks.

I've already started my car! :):p:D

Sheesh, why didn't you just say 3 ounces?? :@ I had to go out on the internet to find the conversion. :( I just don't do metric! Thank goodness you didn't give the max track width in minimeters. I wouldn't be able to build the car! 2.375 inches I understand.

;)(just havin' fun!)

If I had to guess it'd be the two tracks in Crystal Lake. We don't have two other tracks less than a hour apart that'll be open in January, do we? We are talking about a night race, right?

Preston and I won't be able to make it due to in-law holiday plans. Enjoy the race. Thanks to Randy and Ron for hosting and everyone have a great set of holidays.

Well I thought I'd rsvp'd, but upon further review, I had not. Apparently somebody else thought I had too cause my name is on the list. Sorry guys, but I thought everybody knew I work on Saturday nights. That being said I will not be able to attend. Glad to see there will enough participation to make it work. Hey, isn't the Finger running?
The Finger
Upon further review the finger will be able to be there>:p I need to get there a little early to get my car ready so please sofaking don't put the motor away yet!B):DB)

Have fun today guys. Lots of pictures and results please.

Thanks Randy and Ronny for having us. I had a great time. Almost as much as I had building the car.

The racing was great and the marshalling was easy since nobody wanted to scratch the paint. Never in my many years slot racing have I been in or even heard of a race where the lane stickers were put on the bottom of the car to protect the paint jobs. :o

Thanks Rich for arranging the event. I think your digital scale is off a bit though. My $6 mail scale said my car was 3 oz. Adding that 5.3 grams probably cost me the race. :o;)

Randy, the Nomad was kick ass!
Jimmy, mighty sweet ride! And it ran great too!

Next time I’ll borrow one of Sofa King’s cars and get a podium finish. :);)

Let’s do it again.

Now that I see the results; the torino was better than I thought it was. I really enjoyed the race and liked the idea of going from one track to another on the same nite, although I would not want to do it on a regular basic. Thanks to Randy & Ronnie for hosting, and while the nomad won first place I still really liked the T-bucket. I also want to thank Randy & Jimmy for helping me regear the torino on friday nite. See you all saturday nite.:DB):D
